Conductivity measurement

Fire or smoke damage? AREPA Benelux carries out conductivity measurements to determine corrosion risks and advises on safe follow-up steps for installations and electronics.

Our approach to conductivity measurement

In a conductivity measurement, we determine how many corrosion-causing ions are present in the contamination on a surface. We do this by sampling a small, defined part of the surface and dissolving the deposits present in pure water.

We then measure the conductivity of this solution. The higher the conductivity, the greater the amount of dissolved ions and thus the potential corrosion risk. The measurement results provide immediate insight into the severity of the contamination and form the basis for our advice on necessary cleaning or remedial measures.

Conductivity measurement with focus on corrosion risk management

Fire often releases chloride ions, especially when PVC-containing materials burn. These substances can adhere to metal surfaces and combine with moisture to cause corrosion. This process can lead to component deterioration, reduced plant reliability and unexpected longer-term failures.

With a conductivity measurement, we make this risk visible. By gaining timely insight into the degree of contamination, targeted measures can be taken. In this way, we prevent follow-up damage, limit downtime and support a controlled recovery process.

Why choose AREPA in conductivity measurement?

  • Rapid deployment after fire or smoke damage.
  • Reliable measurements according to industry guidelines.
  • Understanding actual corrosion risk instead of assumptions.
  • Clear reporting with practical advice for next steps.

Frequently asked questions

When is a conductivity measurement needed?

A conductivity measurement is recommended after fire or smoke damage, especially when PVC or other plastics have burned.

What exactly is measured?

We measure the amount of dissolved ions in pollution on surfaces. These ions can cause corrosion on metal parts.

Is corrosion immediately visible?

Not always. Corrosion can develop slowly. A measurement helps to identify risks early.

What happens after the measurement?

Based on the results, we advise on cleaning, additional inspections or further remedial measures.

Does equipment need to be replaced immediately?

Not necessarily. Instead, the measurement helps determine whether repair is possible and whether replacement is necessary.
