Housing corporation Ymere
"Dolmans' specialists work quickly and expertly; the fungus is rooted out."
Giving people with modest incomes a good home in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area: that is the mission of housing corporation Ymere. As befits a good landlord, Ymere is committed every day to keeping its nearly 70,000 social housing units clean, whole and safe. For mould remediation, the housing association uses the specialists of Dolmans Calamiteiten Diensten.
" Mould remediation used to be done by our own mechanics, but that hasn't happened for a long time," says account manager Robert Wassink. "Mould and pesticides are not exactly good for your health. Dolmans' specialists know how to handle them safely. They work quickly and skilfully; the fungus is eradicated root and branch. Moreover, tenants never have to wait long before their problem is solved. As a housing association, we are very well taken care of by Dolmans."
Leakage
Condensation on the windows, mould in the bathroom, moisture dripping off the walls; surely it is the tenant's own responsibility to prevent mould in the house? "Certainly," says Wassink, "proper ventilation and heating is something people have to do themselves. We often insist on that too. But sometimes mould is the result of a technical defect, such as a leak. Or because proper ventilation is not possible, for instance because the bathroom is indoors. We are working hard on this by renovating the older homes in our stock and making them more sustainable."
Protective suits
Since Wassink does not have time to follow up on every report of mould, Dolmans' employees pick it up for him. "I'm no longer in between. Dolmans handles it directly with the tenant. Sometimes they engage in conversation and give advice, or just do a recording. If there has been a long-term leak, they make sure the place is dried before treating the mould. This is also done very professionally. Dressed in protective suits, they spray pesticide into the pores of the surface. Then the spot is post-treated and insulated so that the fungus cannot come back. Finally, they sauce the entire surface so that it is a beautiful whole again."
Wassink has never received a complaint from a tenant about Dolmans: "This means the problem has been solved and the tenant is satisfied," he concludes. "The mould won't come back, and that's exactly what we want."
