Blariacum College
"What I found particularly positive was the continuous communication."
In September this year, in the basement of the Blariacum College in Venlo, a pipe of the WKO installation jumped. Because this burst pipe was not noticed until 1.5 days later, the basement was considerably flooded. Dolmans Calamiteiten Diensten was called in to help secure items stored in the basement. Ruud van Rijn, housing policy officer at Onderwijsgemeenschap Venlo, tells how this pleased the school.
A big job
"It was a real mess when we discovered that the pipe of the CHP plant had burst. There was a layer of about 40cm of water in the entire basement. Together with Dolmans, we started clearing the front part of the basement. For each item, we looked at what we could keep and what had to be removed. This was all registered and recorded by Dolmans. Quite a job, but we are very happy with Dolmans' help in this. Every day we had a moment to fine-tune things. And so it took about six weeks until the entire basement was emptied. The water had created quite a bit of mould. Of course, the contaminated water also had to be drained. Dryers were installed by Trition to restore the moisture level in the basement. The full water containers were emptied by Dolmans throughout the process."
Clear and transparent communication
"While clearing the basement, we encountered quite a few challenges. For example, there was quite a lot of paperwork stored in the basement. Unfortunately, the written paperwork was also often so tarnished that much of it had to be thrown away. For this, Dolmans arranged paper containers."
"During the work, everything at school could continue quietly. Dolmans took this into account perfectly, also in terms of safety. There are of course many students and employees walking around, sometimes you couldn't stop them from peeking in the basement. All Dolmans employees were understanding about this, but at the same time were very much on the same page in terms of clear and transparent communication within the school."
Good coordination
"We are very satisfied with Dolmans Calamity Services. The work has now been completed and everything looks tidy again. Many things we fortunately managed to save anyway. What I found particularly positive was the continuous communication. Every day there was a moment of coordination: what is the status? What are we going to do today? Everyone thought along with us, looked at the possibilities and, above all, was honest. Some things you want to keep, but sometimes it is difficult to judge objectively what to do with them. Dolmans was very direct. We saved what could be saved, but if something could not be saved, that was also clearly communicated immediately. We found that very pleasant."
